100+ Years And Counting

Bucket trucks are a staple in the modern electrical and lighting industries, but did you know they’ve been around for over 100 years? These versatile vehicles have a fascinating history that dates to the early 1900s when they were used primarily by electric companies to install and maintain streetlights and power lines. These early bucket trucks were manually operated and had a very limited range of motion. Workers would climb into the bucket and be raised by a hand-operated hydraulic lift. While they were certainly an improvement over earlier methods of working at height, they were still relatively primitive by today’s standards.

Over the years, bucket trucks continued to evolve and improve. In the 1940s, hydraulic systems began to be incorporated into bucket trucks, making them more efficient and easier to use. By the 1960s, bucket trucks had become more common and were used not only by electric companies but also by telephone and cable companies, as well as by construction crews and other industries that required working at height. In the 1970s and 80s, bucket trucks began to incorporate more advanced safety features, such as emergency lowering systems and insulated buckets, to protect workers from electrical shock. These safety features became increasingly important as more and more industries began to use bucket trucks.

Today, bucket trucks are a ubiquitous sight in many industries, including electrical and lighting services. They are used not only for installation and maintenance of streetlights and power lines but also for sign repair, tree trimming, and other tasks that require working at height.
